The Standard

Everything in the barrel — and nothing to chase.

Wood & kindling

Seasoned firewood and kindling to keep the stove fed for your whole hire.

Bucket & ladle

Cedar bucket and ladle for löyly — the steam ritual, done properly.

Thermometer & hygrometer

Keep an eye on the heat and humidity so you sweat on your terms.

Door lock

Privacy when you want it; the barrel is yours alone for the hire.

15-min induction

We walk you through lighting, watering, and safety before you sweat.

First fire lit (delivery)

On delivery hires, we set up, level the barrel, and light the first fire.

Self-tow pickups include everything above except on-site setup and the first fire, which are part of the delivery service.

The Fine Print

Bond, cancellations & weather.

Clear terms keep the heat simple. The barrel is a hand-built asset, so a small bond protects it — but we keep cancellations and weather fair on your side too.

Refundable Bond

$500 bond, returned in full

A $500 refundable security bond applies to every hire, held against damage or loss. It's charged separately and released within 3 working days of the sauna coming back clean and whole. Self-tow pickups also require a copy of your tow vehicle's rego and a valid licence.

Cancellations

Free up to 7 days out

Cancel 7 or more days before your start date for a full refund. Within 7 days, your hire is non-refundable unless we can re-book the days — if we do, we refund you in full. Move the date once free of charge, subject to availability.

Weather

Severe weather reschedules, free

A drizzle won't stop the sweat. In severe weather or a MetService warning that makes delivery or towing unsafe, we'll reschedule your hire to the next available date at no cost, or refund you in full. The call is made the day prior, never on the morning of.

The Story

A ritual the road can carry.

In Finland, the sauna is the cleanest room in the house — a place to think, to recover, to gather. We believed New Zealanders deserved that without owning one. So we built a barrel sauna that travels, pairing Scandinavian craft with the freedom of the trailer. Wherever you find your quiet — lake edge, high-country station, your own back garden — the heat meets you there.

Circulation & Recovery

Heat expands the vessels; the cold air of the Canterbury plains does the rest. Athletes swear by it.

Breath & Stillness

Twenty quiet minutes. No screen, no noise — just cedar, steam, and your own slow breathing.

Off-Grid by Nature

Wood-fired and trailer-mounted. No power lead, no mains water. Just the land and the heat.

Guest Words

Heat, in their own words.

From back-garden birthdays to high-country station recoveries — a few of the people who've made the barrel part of their ritual.

"Booked it for my partner's 40th in our back garden. It arrived, was lit, and we spent the whole evening out there. Felt like a weekend away without leaving home."

Hana & Tom

Sumner, Christchurch

"Towed it up to a high-country station for four days. The induction was quick, the wood was plenty, and the barrel held heat beautifully even at altitude. Worth every dollar."

Mackenzie

Tekapo

"We hired it for a post-rugby recovery weekend. The whole club rotated through. Setup took 45 minutes and they talked us through everything. Will be back next season."

Priya

Lincoln, Canterbury

"Used it for our wedding morning — the bridal party sweated out the nerves together. Delivery was on time, the fire was already going. Magical touch to the day."

Questions

Before you step in.

The Harvia wood-fired stove reaches a comfortable 70–95 °C in roughly 45–60 minutes. We include kindling and dry firewood for a full session, and walk you through tending the fire so you can dial the temperature to suit — a gentler 70 °C for families, or a proper 90 °C for seasoned sauna-goers.

A vehicle with a standard tow ball rated to 750 kg, and a reasonably clear path to place the sauna on level ground. Our team does a 15-minute handover covering lighting, watering, towing, and safety, so even first-timers leave confident.

Anywhere within Christchurch city (a ~15 km radius of the city centre), with a fuel and driver-time surcharge for deliveries further afield across Canterbury. Delivery runs from 6pm on weekdays (anytime on weekends), and we collect the sauna 24 hours after it's delivered. Delivery is quoted by zone at booking. For events well beyond Christchurch — South Canterbury, North Canterbury, or further afield — get in touch and we'll see what's possible.

No. The sauna is wood-fired and fully self-contained, so there's no need for a power connection or plumbing. You only need water to pour over the stones — a bucket and ladle are provided. A level, well-ventilated outdoor spot is all that's required.

The sauna performs beautifully in the cold and rain — that's the whole point of a wood-fired barrel sauna. In genuinely dangerous conditions (high-wind warnings, heavy snow, road closures) we'll reschedule your hire at no cost.

Selecting a slot reserves it pending confirmation. We confirm availability and send payment details by email within a few hours. Booked slots are blocked live on the calendar so nothing double-books.

Our full-day hires start at $650 for self-tow pickup and $700 for delivery and setup within Christchurch, and you can book a single 24-hour day or a run of consecutive days at the same daily rate. Across New Zealand, mobile sauna sessions typically range from around $200 for a short group session up to $1,000+ for a full weekend, so a full 24-hour day at our rate represents strong value — wood, kindling, and setup are all included.

The barrel sauna comfortably seats up to six adults at a time, with two bench levels so you can choose a hotter or cooler spot. For larger groups and events, people simply rotate through in turns — it's a very sociable way to use it.

Bring a towel (and a second one to sit on), swimwear or comfortable shorts, drinking water to stay hydrated, and sandals or slip-on shoes for stepping out. A robe and a warm hat for your head are nice extras. That's it — we supply the wood, the water bucket, the ladle, and the know-how.

Sauna bathing is safe for most healthy adults and, with supervision, children too — keep their sessions shorter and the temperature lower (around 60–70 °C). You should avoid the sauna, or check with your doctor first, if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, very low blood pressure, or are feeling unwell. Never sauna under the influence of alcohol, and always hydrate before and after.

Aim for 15–20 minutes per session, then step out to cool down for at least as long before going back in. Two or three rounds is ideal. Listen to your body and leave immediately if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable. Weekly sauna use is common, and in the Nordic tradition many people sauna several times a week — there's no harm in enjoying it often, as long as you stay hydrated.

The sauna needs a flat, level spot roughly 2.4 m × 1.8 m — lawn, concrete, gravel, or a suitably rated deck all work, as long as the ground can take the weight (around 500 kg). Leave about half a metre of clearance on each side for airflow and access, and choose a well-ventilated outdoor position away from overhanging branches.

Absolutely — the mobile sauna is a memorable addition to weddings, birthdays, stag and hen dos, corporate retreats, sports-team recovery, and community gatherings. We deliver, level, and light the first fire so it's ready when your guests arrive. Get in touch with your date and venue and we'll tailor the setup.

We recommend booking a few weeks ahead, especially over the cooler months when demand peaks. You can book a single 24-hour day or select a run of consecutive days (for example, Monday through Thursday) directly on the calendar — the live availability updates instantly so you'll never request a date that's already taken.

Yes — wood-fired and self-contained, it runs entirely off-grid with no power lead or plumbing. The flue directs smoke straight up and away, and we burn seasoned, dry firewood to keep it as clean-burning as possible. We're happy to position the sauna thoughtfully on your site to minimise any impact on neighbours.
